PARKING

Please park at the Unity Parking lot as indicated on the map here. The Dan Patch Parking lot is quite a distance to walk to the Education room (EG12) where we will be meeting for clinical.

MEETING WITH EMPLOYEES AT MASONIC HOMES, BLOOMINGTON

When you arrive at Masonic entrance, please follow signs to Unity Entrance. Your goal will be to find the Unity Center facility entrance door. Please feel free to mention that you are a nursing assistant student from ZANDU HEALTH INITIATIVE attending clinical. Alternatively, you can text or call me [Clinical Instructor, Steve Mandieka, 952-208-5590] to update me of your location. In case you are unable to reach me, please call Masonic Homes front desk number at 952-948-7000 and request to be directed to where students are meeting for clinical. You may also call or text Survival at 612-524-9881.

When you arrive, please expect to be screened for COVID-19 symptoms, receive one face mask and eye protection(face shield/goggles) that you will keep for the entire two clinical days. After screening, each student will wash hands in the community room where we will meet. Once we get to the classroom and settle in, each student will have a COVID-19 rapid test completed and we will review Student Orientation Paperwork and COVID-19 Infection Control guidelines. CONFIDENTIALITY (HIPAA)

Minnesota Masonic Homes Confidentiality Policy: No cell phone usage (texts/making calls/taking photos) when providing cares to residents/patients. We strictly abide with this policy at CLINICAL. If found using your cell phone, we will enforce this policy in accordance to the School Code of Conduct.

DRESS CODE

  • Eyewear or Face Shield (as needed);
  • Athletic shoes (sneakers | no open shoes);
  • Transfer belt will be available at the facility (you do not need to bring your own);
  • Short finger nails 1/4-inch-long (no artificial nails);
  • hoodies, fanny packs or sun glasses should NOT be worn when providing care to residents;
  • Shoulder length hair must be secured back away from face.
  • Navy blue uniform.
  • Student ID/Name Badge must be visible to residents and staff at all times.

MEALS | LUNCH | DINNER

  • Breaks are assigned by your instructor. Usually, a student takes a break at the same time with assigned nursing assistant. Please bring your own boxed lunch or snack. Refrigerator and microwave are available for use. A vending machine with pop and snacks is also available. Alternatively, you may also choose to buy food at nearby restaurants. PERSONAL BELONGINGS

Travel light: If you bring any purses/books/skills kit, bags or phone along, please bring a lock to lock your items.

PATIENT/RESIDENT CARE ASSIGNMENTS

Clinical instructor or nurse manager will assign you to shadow a staff member. You will observe followed by active participation in the care of residents. The required outcome at clinical is the student will progress to independence with resident care in the three clinical days. Often, you will work with the same group of residents or the same resident assistant all three days. However, the instructor may modify assignments each clinical day depending on staff availability and student needs.

PLEASE NOTE: You must complete all two days to successfully to pass your clinical experience. Plan to be on time to report to clinical. In addition, you may not leave early from the clinical site without instructor permission.

You will be required to submit two (2) fees for testing:

1. Administrative Fee. You will be required to pay the Technical College a fee for administering the examination. Contact your local Technical College to determine how much this fee is and the method of payment.

2. NNAAP and NA/HHA Examination Fees. The fees listed below have been established for the NNAAP and NA/HHA Examinations in Minnesota.

One form of identification must be photo bearing. Photo copies will NOT be accepted.

Examples of proper identification include current, not expired:

  • Credit Card

Q A Do I need to wear uniform to the State Exams?

CANDIDATE VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

You will need to act as a candidate volunteer for another nurse aide’s Skills Evaluation and play the role of a nursing home patient (client). The evaluator will give you verbal instructions that will describe how you should act in performing the role of the client.

You must wear flat, slip-on, non-skid shoes, a loose-fitting top with short sleeves that can be rolled up to the shoulder, or tank top, and loose fitting pants that can be rolled up. You will be required to put a gown on over your clothing. In no case may candidates remove clothing down to undergarments. Prior to beginning the exam, you should inform the evaluator of any food or latex allergy or sensitivity to skin soaps or lotion. Any limitations to range of motion must also be communicated to the evaluator prior to the start of the skills examination.

For infection control purposes, you should not come to the test site with open areas/sores on the skin. Candidates with any open areas or sores on their skin should reschedule their skills test to a later date after their skin fully heals.
